WHAT TO WEAR?

In preparation for the upcoming Christmas Mini Sessions, many of you have no idea what to wear to a session.

Sessions with me are... casual. I usually wear jeans and flip flops or boots so I can easily throw myself onto the ground for that perfect shot.

What should you wear? Short answer: whatever you want.

Long answer: I encourage families to wear whatever matches their personality. If your family is fun and crazy, think about wearing some jeans and fun colors that will pop out of the picture. If your family is quiet and calm (or you want to appear that way!), pick colors that blend well together and let the attention go to your faces.

Bottom line is that you've got to wear what you feel good in. Jeans look awesome in a photo, and skirts and flip-flops give an innocent and timeless feel to an image. For babys bring some fun hats or colorful sweaters to show off their personality. Children's sessions will be a huge success if your child loves the clothes they are wearing. Which most likely means lots of color!

A color tip is to look at the color wheel. The colors opposite of each other look good together like turquoise and orange, red and green, or purple and yellow. Try the combinations.. you'll come up with outfits you never would have thought of and that look awesome together!

It's helpful to lay your outfits out together on the couch. You might be surprised at how you might want to change something out. You can spot the same color throughout some of the outfits or accessories to make them all come together. Another way to do it is to have a child wear something with multi colors on it and have the rest of the family draw from those colors. They say blue and purple photograph best, but don't all go running to the store to change your outfits. It's just something to consider.

Shoes? My opinion on shoes is don't spend your money on new shoes UNLESS they are colorful (which is really cute!) and they'll pop out. Boots are awesome. Barefoot pictures are cute, but I wouldn't count on the weather holding up.

Be prepared for cold weather. Cold kids = unhappy kids. Have a backup plan if you are bringing short sleeve shirts. I love cardigans, jackets, vests, scarves, and hats. Have fun with it!

If you have kids:
1. Bring snacks, even if you just fed your child before you arrived
2. Bring your child's favorite toy/snuggly/security blanket, etc.
3. Bring your patience and a positive attitude. Parents sometimes have expectations for their toddler or the photography shoot that may not be realistic in all cases. Try not to get too frustrated if your child won't sit still for lengths of time (most do not). Remember, they are likely a little nervous in this situation and children can detect their parents' frustration and will react accordingly.
5. Bring your sense of humor. You know what makes your child laugh or giggle more than any other person and you can typically help set the mood.

For more suggestions on good colors or outfits to wear, you may find a good source of ideas in Parents Magazine, or similar type publications that feature lots of photographs of kids.

If you have any props or furniture you'd like to bring, that'd be awesome. Just lmk so I can plan accordingly. I will have an assistant as well.

Bottom Line: Dress what you feel good in!

If you need any more assistance, don't hesitate to ask.
